Battle other ships, or embark on a mission seeking plunder and riches while giving your enemies the slip. Recreate the High Adventure and Glory of The Age of Sail!
This Starter set includes:
Compass Rose – Sailpower 2.0 – $20.00
A great addition to your Sailpower fleet! This Compass Rose comes with a complete set of wind flags, making it easy to track both wind direction and intensity.
This 15mm Sailpower 2.0 sloop model is meant to represent a small coastal sloop, typical of those attached to coastal duty or small squadrons. Sloops were popular due to the relative low cost for a ship as well as the ability to evade large square rigged vessels by sailing upwind. This version carries 8 guns.
Bermuda Sloop kit – Sailpower 2.0 – $30.00
This 15mm Sailpower 2.0 small craft is typical of those used by merchants, privateers and pirates all over the Caribbean. Development of the rig is thought to have begun with fore-and-aft rigged boats built by a Dutch-born Bermudian in the 17th century. It was popular due to its superb upwind sailing, performance, and resistance to rot due to cedar being used in construction. Our game version features 6 guns and a dollhouse-style captain’s cabin unique to these sloop designs.
This 15mm Sailpower 2.0 sloop is meant to represent an armed merchant or a merchant that has been converted for privateer or pirate purposes. Sloops were popular due to the relative low cost for a ship as well as the ability to evade large square rigged vessels by sailing upwind. This version carried a high deck (allowing for an ample hold) and 6 cannon.
10 Gun Cutter kit – Sailpower 2.0 – $35.00
This 15mm Sailpower 2.0 cutter model differs from a sloop in that the mast is generally set further back (more centered) and by having a sleek hull and the capability to carry very large amounts of canvas on its single mast. Cutter’s also feature an offset boom in front instead of the traditional bowsprit. Cutters were used by smugglers due to the legendary speed possible from the design. The Royal navy and revenue service ran this design as both a dispatch vessel, and as smuggler interdiction. This sort of vessel would be a common sight in the coastal and channel waters during the Age of Revolutions. This version carries 10 light cannon.
This is a 15mm 10-gun brigantine typical of those favored by pirates of Nassau. This ship likely started life as a merchant, and also can be upgraded to add swivel guns, including 2 on either side of the ship’s wheel, which would be used to guard the Captain from threats on the main deck.
12 Gun Brig kit – Sailpower 2.0 – $90.00
This 15mm brig is armed with 12 guns, has a bluff bow and a nice quarterdeck and stern gallery and has 12 points along the rail to potentially add rail swivel guns. She would be typical of merchant and privateer brigs from the Age of Piracy and the Age of Revolutions. This mid-sized ship makes for a nice “large” ship for smaller games, or as a privateer, merchant, or mid-sized warship for a bigger game. She also would make for a great support ship for a small coastal raiding mission!
We sculpted these over the years that the first edition was in print. They are a bit more customizable in that the hatches and other bits are separate pieces which allows you to modify location or omit them as desired. The Soldiery has a standing inventory of these kit designs and going forward is the exclusive retailer of the classic kit line.
Going forward as these kits are reordered we plan to upgrade the directions and the masting for the classic designs, and will keep them available for the builders who like to customize the look. We will also be releasing a lot of these new designs as part of our 2.0 kit line with upgraded details cast in, and a new twist.
SP-BC14 14 gun Baltimore Clipper
Baltimore clippers had their evolution in blockade runners and privateers of the American Revolution. They were built at Fells Point Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. The Baltimore clippers are noted for their rakish masts and sleek hulls. The British eventually captured some and studied their lines. One reason suggested for the attack on Fort Mchenry during the War of 1812 was that it guarded Baltimore where these annoyances to British pride were built. The hull for this ship is about twelve by three and a half inches. This kit MSRPs for $100
A basic privateer version, the Comet
SPQ-BR12 Sailpower 12 gun Quarterdeck Brig of War Kit
The 12-gun brig is inspired by Colonial/Revolutionary/Napoleonic era warships such as the Fair American, and by the Lady Washington, a replica you might recognize (repainted and dressed) as the HMS Interceptor from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. It sports a well-built hull with lots of survivability. Four of her cannons are below deck for extra protection. This vessel is well suited to be the flagship of a flotilla of smaller warships, or as a tender to a larger frigate. The hull for this ship is about eleven by three inches. This Kit MSRPs for $85.
Of course we could not resist making the fastest ship in the Carribean by adding 2 swivels and 4 cannon. We give you our take on HMS Interceptor
14 gun Brig-sloop (HMS Speedy)
This is based off the design used by Cochrane to capture the 32 gun frigate El gamo! it is armed with 14 light cannons, and a load of swivel rail guns for close quarters work! This kit MSRP is $85
Initial build up of the hull in front of the reference material
SP-BK Bomb Ketch
Bomb ships are not really designed to engage other ships, but to attack shore targets. However we wanted to make sure that the ship can defend against other ships well, so we chose the heavy carronade scheme for the defensive guns. Anchor this bomb ketch in a protected area behind your fleet and commence bombardment! This kit MSRPs for $80
Basic build up of a pair of kits by Brian McCabe
SP-CU12 Twelve Gun Cutter
Inspired by the English naval cutters such as HMS Alert. This vessel was used for small missions, for customs enforcement, as a dispatch vessel and other such tasks. The real HMS Alert managed to beat the 16 gun US brig Lexington during the American Revolution! This vessel is fast and well armed for its size and is a good addition to any fleet! The hull for this ship is about ten by three inches. This kit MSRPs for $75
Basic build ups of the kit by Brian McCabe and Brian Carnes. The black cap rail version is HMS Hawke the one with the blue rail and the custom added small boats, rail guns and sweeps rack is HMS Alert
