Captain Ed Visits the Tall Ships in Cleveland – Part Two
This is part Two of my report on the Sea Dog Game Studios trip to Cleveland to see Tall Ships.
My friend Scott and I actually stood in line twice to go on board the HMS Bounty. The ship was that cool. It was built in the ’60s for the Mutiny on the Bounty movie with Marlon Brando and Trevor Howard. The ship is actually about 1/3 larger than theoriginal, historical ship, but that just meant that there was more headroom when we went below decks.
Below, the crew of the HMS Bounty had a small gift shop where they were selling shirts, hats, and pins. I got a cool 50th anniversary HMS Bounty pin.
As we were leaving, we stopped to talk with one of the crew, and we found out that the ship had been used in the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, although it was a very minor scene and she had been re-rigged to disguise her. I may have to re-watch that movie again and see if I can spot her.
After we left the Bounty, we we on board of the Pride of Baltimore II, a very nice Baltimore Clipper. Unfortunately, the ship was crowded, so we did not get much time on board. But, at least there was shade from the sun!
The best part was the sign at the bow that stated “CAUTION! Do Not Enter. This area is temporarily LAVA!”
After Scott and I finished on the Pride, and had walked around a bit, we met up with the rest of our group. The others had not gone on the Bounty yet, so Scott and I stood in line again to go on board. It was still worth seeing a second time.
I can’t wait until the tall ships come back in a few years. By then, my son will be old enough to enjoy the ships, and maybe we will go out on one of the cruises.
