TechCommander will be available in limited numbers at Origins 2010

Posted in Conventions, Origins Game Fair, Tech Commander on June 20th, 2010 by Captain Arrg – Be the first to comment

We have been busy with our swat pinja sqaud cranking out TechCommander for Origins, but unfortunately “our up till 2 AM” casting sessions are about to come to an end so we can rest up for the show!  We will have a very limited number of kits for sale at the show.  Thus my advice is, come early!

We also will have a few T shirts for sale to celebrate the launch as well as a Con exclusive MSV design with a exclusive data card signed by Sparrow MSV designers Cassy Angel and Brian Carnes (see the con exclusive article later in this blog)

Origins 2010 Sailpower Invitational Challenge!

Posted in Event details and info, Origins Game Fair, Sailpower on June 16th, 2010 by Captain Arrg – Be the first to comment

Last year at Origins we ran an ongoing points total towards a grand prize for all events and by Saturday night the competition was rather fierce. While this was a joy to see from one perspective, it also may be a bit much for the casual player who is new to the game and has never seen the game at a high level.

SO this year we are going to be doing things a little differently. We are scheduling a regular game Saturday night, but we are ALSO scheduling an invitational game during the same slot.

Sailpower Invitational  (Saturday, 7 PM to MIDNIGHT)

This is the competitive match for the show! You must be invited to play in this event. If you buy a ticket for this event by accident, and do not have an invite we will simply move you to the regular big game.  If you have an invite, you will need to purchase a ticket for the event, however we hope to make it an awesome game for the experienced player.  We will be awarding prizes. Every qualified player who shows up will get a small prize just playing and there also will be a chance to win the ship you play at the event.  Of course, for such booty a good buccaneer would expect a challenge to go along with it! ARRRRRR!!! Of Course!  We will be using the FULL rules set including variable winds and shoals.  The environment will be full of hazards, AND there will be no factions among the players (no British broadsides, no American marksman ETC). The smart scurvy dawg would point out i said “among the players.”  Did I say that? Hmmm!

Every player will start out with identical ships – the 6 gun schooners we use in the demos. We will be using the full ship including the rail guns on the quarter deck.   Our goal will be to sink at least half the field (You’ve been warned!)  If you can survive the battle without leaving the play surface, you will get to keep the ship you played.

We will still be giving away an event winner prize as well!

How do you get an invite?

If you are on the following list, you have already qualified based on past victories

Josh Potter
Eric Adamasek
Dave Hannigan
Amber Greenwood
Becky Allar
Bob Siegle
Brian Klinger
Don Zimmerman
Kieth Kerstettler
Mattthew Wiggins
Mike Cooper

If not, you can get an invite by:
1. Being the overall Sailpower champion at any convention we attended within the last 2 years.
2. Being a previous invitee that attends the event (eg, if you attend and play you will automatically be invited back for future invitationals)
3. Winning any of the evening games leading up to Saturday night at Origins.

If your name should be on the above list and you are not, please drop us an email @ info@sailpowergame.com

So, if you do have an invite, You can play in our other events, but have the freedom to help out newer players without affecting your chances at a championship! If you don’t, there are still a few chances to get an invite!

Come for the adventure if you can wrangle one of the invites!

Looking forward to Origins and seeing all of you!
Brian Carnes

Final push to TechCommander launch! Starter Announcement!

Posted in Origins Game Fair, Tech Commander on June 14th, 2010 by Captain Arrg – Be the first to comment

We locked the TechCommander rules book last night and we are on schedule for a launch at Origins.

We also have locked the contents of the Starter (which is to be available at Origins!)

The starter contains:

  • One copy of the rule book.  This is 6X9 coilbound for ease of use on the battlefield and is not a “starter” version but the complete regular rules book!

  • You also get two AC3 Pigeonhawk MSV units.  These are cast in off-black resin  They are basically table ready other then the paint!  If you are a modeler you may want to perform minor sanding, flash removal or other finishing. The units are not glued together, so this can easily be done.

  • Each Pigeonhawk will come armed with a pair of armor piecing Spitter rotary machine guns. Additionally we will be including a set each of swappable weapons (most likely the sideswipes and the longbows)

  • The whole thing will come in a nifty tub for storage and retails for 75 dollars

If you would like to pre-reserve yours,  Please contact Kent @ 614-267-1957 or Fax: 614-267-0558  His email is mail@thesoldiery.com

The best hours to contact Kent are Tues – Thur 3 pm to 9 pm, Friday 3 pm to 1 am, Saturday 1 pm to 11 pm,Sunday 1 pm to 7 pm, CLOSED MONDAYS. All times are EST US.

Additionally the launch lineup for TechCommander includes:

  • Stingray tank AC2

  • Sparrow AC3 (will be a convention exclusive through 2010)

  • Warlord AC4

  • Wartoad AC4

  • Gladiator AC4 with weapons pack

  • Strikefire Mk2 AC5

  • Linebacker AC6

We will be announcing release date for other TechCommander designs soon including the infantry packs, the Hunter IV, the Troll, and the awesome Paladin!

-See you all at Origins!

Con Exclusive TechCommander design -Sparrow

Posted in Conventions, Creative outlet, Origins Game Fair, Tech Commander, Under development on June 9th, 2010 by Captain Arrg – Be the first to comment

Meet the Sparrow, designed by Cassy “Heartbreaker” Angel (One of our awesome TechCommander GM’s) and TechCommander creator Brian Carnes!

This MSV is a AC3 design, with a speed of 16.  The MSV sports jump jets, and a pair of standard Pigeon Missile Launchers. This gives it the same build box as the Pidgeonhawk which should make it easy to equip this unit.

The Sparrow is the first syndicate design released by SDGS. To reflect Syndicate thinking it has improved targeting suite.

WETWIRE JACKS: If piloted by a syndicate pilot, this unit receives a + 1 to fire control

TARGETING PACKAGE RETROFIT: This unit ignores wild weasel systems on targets assuming there are no smoke modifiers in play for shots to that specific target. Additionally, this unit ignored increased difficulty for re-rolls generated by the anti-missile system.

This unit is fairly slow, and has little or no defensive abilities, thus is best used in areas with lots of terrain to pop and shoot.  Because of the awesome offensive abilities,  it’s a great unit to pop and shoot from the cover of urban areas on the battlefield.  The pictured unit is armed with Longbows which are ideal for sniping.

The current plan is for this design to be available at Conventions SDGS attends as an con exclusive!

The pictured Sparrow is painted up as Honor, the ride of US Marine, and super intelligence agent Katerina Jett.   Katerina is a character in the TechCommander universe.  She is the Asian American granddaughter of Ikara Jett, the creator of the original MSV standard.  She grew up in Kentucky, and became  a US marine.  She is an expert on the emerging threats and benefits from the powerful Syndicate, which is little understood within US/European circles. She often wargames or runs missions using Syndicate gear and has even been known to go under cover as a Syndicate operative!

You can read more about Katerina in the TechCommander rulebook which should also be released at Origins, then available shortly thereafter from The Soldiery, Lulu.com, and other fine game and hobby stores!
